Nordic–Baltic Mobility Programme for Culture—mobility for residents of Nordic and Baltic countries
This programme is intended for professional artists and cultural figures residing in Northern Europe and the Baltic states. It is important to note that this refers specifically to residency, not citizenship: it is not necessary to hold a passport from a Northern or Baltic country. If you do not live in this region, the programme will not be suitable for you — this is a basic condition for participation.
Programme format
The format funds individual professional trips within the region and is suitable for situations where physical presence in another context becomes part of professional work. This could include working meetings with partners, participation in cultural and professional events, research visits, familiarisation with institutions, archives or the local scene, as well as participation in exhibition or guest formats.
Before submitting an application, a funding calculator is available on the programme portal, which allows you to see in advance the approximate amount of support based on the destination and dates of your trip. This helps you to estimate the possible budget before you start filling out the application.
Who implements the programme
Mobility funding is part of the Nordic–Baltic Mobility Programme for Culture, implemented by Nordic Culture Point. The programme combines several forms of support aimed at developing professional cooperation in the region. The mobility format is intended for individual trips by artists and cultural professionals. Network funding supports the creation and development of professional networks, including those initiated by the artists themselves. Residency funding is intended for host organisations and institutions and is not available to individual applicants. Each format has its own purpose and is submitted separately.
Geography of trips
Trips are only supported within the Nordic and Baltic region. The programme covers Denmark, Estonia, Finland, the Faroe Islands, Greenland, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, Sweden and the Åland Islands. The format works particularly well in cases where the trip is related to building professional contacts, participating in relevant events or researching the context for future projects.
The amount of support is calculated on the basis of fixed transport costs and/or a fixed daily allowance and depends on the destination and dates of the trip. Production costs are not funded.
Application requirements
Only individuals, not organisations, may apply. If travelling as a group, each participant must submit their own individual application. Funding is available to professional artists and cultural practitioners in all fields, including artists, curators, producers, literary translators, cultural editors and researchers. Professional status must be documented by work experience and/or relevant education.
The application must be accompanied by an invitation or letter of intent from the host party. The document must clearly state who is inviting whom, for what purpose and in what professional context the interaction is planned. The working language of the programme is English.
To apply, you must first register with Nordic Culture Point; an account is created in the applicant’s name.
One application may include several destinations within the region if the trip is related to a single professional task. In this case, invitations from each destination must be attached and the route must be logically justified. The application cannot include several trips on different dates, and the return journey must be to the original point of departure.
What is not supported
The programme does not support travel within a single country, travel outside the Nordic and Baltic regions, formal education, corporate and official business trips, or events that have already taken place. Mobility funding is not intended for individual participation in residencies, as residency programmes are supported through a separate format designed for host organisations. A trip related to a residency can only be considered if the main focus is on professional collaboration rather than accommodation or production of work. Funding is not available to students, except in cases where the trip is not related to study and is part of further professional activity.
Terms and restrictions
Supported activities may begin no earlier than eight weeks after the application deadline. Applicants who require assistance or additional support during their trip due to a disability may request additional funding by indicating this in their application.
How applications are assessed
Applications are assessed on the basis of the applicant’s professional experience, the clarity of the purpose of the trip and the potential for cooperation. Particular attention is paid to the Scandinavian-Baltic dimension and the contribution of the trip to the development of contacts and exchanges within the region.
