Larnaca Biennale 2027 — open call for artists to an international biennale in Larnaca with awards and titles

Larnaca Biennale 2027 invites artists to explore themes of movement, borders, memory, and belonging through contemporary art.
The fifth edition of the biennale will take place in Cyprus in autumn 2027 and will bring together artists from different countries working in visual art, photography, video, installation, performance, and interdisciplinary practices.
The new edition is built around the theme “Metatopias: Geography in Motion”, which examines the changes shaping space, identity, and relationships between people. For many artists, this is an opportunity to present their work in an international context and become part of one of the largest artistic initiatives in the Eastern Mediterranean.

The Theme of the 2027 Biennale
Curators Niki Papaspirou and Marios Fournaris propose viewing place not as a fixed point on a map, but as a constantly evolving system of connections, movements, and cultural processes.
The theme explores a wide range of issues:
— migration and mobility;
— memory and trauma;
— changing territories and borders;
— climate transformations;
— belonging and identity;
— relationships between people and space.
The organizers emphasize that artists are free to interpret the theme through personal, social, political, or environmental perspectives.

What Works Are Accepted
The biennale accepts projects in almost any medium and material.
Artists may submit painting, drawing, photography, sculpture, installation, video art, performance, and interdisciplinary projects.
The application fee is:
€50 for an individual participant;
€75 for a group of two artists;
€100 for groups of three to five participants.
The fee applies to one application and is non-refundable.
Installation projects must include a high-quality visualization or photographs of a model.
Video art submissions must include a video link and a project description.
Video duration must not exceed 5 minutes.

How the Application Process Works
To apply, participants must upload three images of their work, complete the application form in English, and provide additional information about the project.
The organizers recommend using high-resolution images (300 dpi), as selected works may be published in the official biennale catalogue.
Installation, video art, and performance submissions must also include a short project description of up to 200 words.
Participants must be 18 years old by March 31, 2027, inclusive.

What Selected Participants Receive
Selected works will be exhibited at various venues throughout central Larnaca.
For some installations and performances, the organizers may fully or partially cover transportation and accommodation costs. Decisions are made individually and depend on the scale of the project.
Selection results are expected to be announced by May 15, 2027.
Larnaca Biennale 2027 will present 13 international awards and honorary titles:
— the Biennale Grand Prize;
— three Excellence Awards;

Important Information
Submitted works must fully correspond to the images and materials provided in the application. The organizers reserve the right to reject projects that do not comply with the competition requirements.
Standard shipping and return costs are the responsibility of participants. Artists are strongly encouraged to insure their artworks during transportation and exhibition.
The biennale does not sell artworks and does not act as an intermediary between artists and potential buyers.
For artists working with themes of migration, memory, borders, environmental change, and cultural identity, “Metatopias: Geography in Motion” offers broad possibilities for artistic research and international dialogue.
