Stanley Greene Foundation Emerging Photographer Grant — $10,000 grant for emerging documentary photographers
For many photographers, the most challenging stage of a career comes after the first publications and assignments, when ideas are already in place but resources for fully realizing a project remain limited. The Stanley Greene Foundation Emerging Photographer Grant was created to support authors working in documentary photography, visual storytelling, and humanistic subjects.
The program provides $10,000 to launch or complete a photography project and is aimed at photographers at an early stage of their professional careers. The foundation places particular emphasis on authors from underrepresented and diverse communities, helping them gain access to funding and international visibility.
Who Can Apply
Applications are open to professional photographers with no more than five years of professional experience who are at least 18 years old at the time of application.
Based on the application form, the program accepts participants from different countries around the world. Applicants must indicate their country of residence, and the available options include an international list of countries, confirming that participation is possible outside the United States.
Students are not eligible to apply. However, applicants who complete their studies before the grant decision is made may still apply.
What Projects Are Supported
The foundation seeks authors with a strong documentary and humanistic focus.
Projects are particularly encouraged if they address:
— human rights;
— social change;
— community life;
— migration and identity;
— the consequences of conflict;
— cultural memory;
— stories of people and their environments.
Projects should be visually compelling, journalistically feasible, and socially meaningful.
What You Need to Prepare
Applicants must prepare several written materials:
— a biography of up to 1,500 characters;
— a project description of up to 2,000 characters;
— a detailed project proposal of up to 3,000 characters.
In addition, applicants may upload up to 25 project images. If the work is still at an early stage, previous projects may be submitted to demonstrate the applicant’s artistic approach and ability to realize the proposed idea. Images created using artificial intelligence are not eligible.
How the Grant Is Paid
The grant amount is $10,000. After the results are announced, the recipient receives $8,000, while the remaining $2,000 is paid after project completion and submission of a final report together with fifteen digital images.
The submitted images become part of the foundation’s archive and may be used for informational and educational purposes related to the activities of the Stanley Greene Foundation.
How the Selection Process Works
During the first stage, the jury reviews applications, project proposals, and visual materials.
A shortlist of finalists is then created.
Selected candidates are given the opportunity to further develop their projects and respond to questions from the jury. Following a second review of the materials, the final grant recipient is chosen.
What Is Important to Consider
Each participant may submit only one application. Collaborative projects and applications involving multiple authors are permitted. All images must be submitted in JPG format and comply with the technical requirements.
The organizers specifically emphasize that the written components of the application play a crucial role in the evaluation process. Even if a project is still at an early stage and visual materials are limited, a strong concept and a convincing project proposal can be decisive factors.
The deadline for applications is 1 July 2026.
