12 international residencies for artists, photographers and cultural organisations in the second half of 2026

In the second half of 2026, applications remain open for international residencies in France, Germany, Austria, Luxembourg and other European countries. We have put together 12 programmes that offer artists funding, housing, studios, access to professional infrastructure and a chance to present new projects to an international audience.
The selection includes short production residencies, long-term research programmes, formats for creative duos, and opportunities for authors with an already established professional practice. We have arranged the programmes by nearest deadline, so you can see which applications to prepare first. Also added at the end are strong international residencies whose new calls open regularly or are expected later in 2026.

EOFA — Embassy of Foreign Artists
Geneva, open to almost any discipline — from visual art to music and literature. A partnership with the Geneva Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies gives access to the archives of international organisations. CHF 1,400 a month, a private room for three months.
Suitable if: you are drawn to archival research work rather than an exhibition outcome.
May not be suitable if: a public showing at the end of the residency matters to you — there isn’t one.

Ars Biologica Art × Science Residency
An Ars Electronica residency at the intersection of art and science, with a budget of up to €24,000. Two-stage selection: from 3–5 finalists, two are chosen after interviews, judged on originality, impact on the local community and feasibility of the project.
Suitable if: you are 18 or older, have at least 5 years of professional practice, have experience collaborating across art and science, and have the right to work and travel within the EU.
May not be suitable if: you do not have a European residence permit or work visa.
Application deadline — 28 September 2026.

Moulin du Got
A six-week residency at a working 15th-century paper mill in France, aimed at French-speaking artists and graphic designers. Participants receive €3,000, private accommodation, access to equipment for handmade papermaking, letterpress printing, engraving and embossing, and support from professional craftspeople. Organisers cover up to three return trips and can help present the results through an exhibition, a public event or a joint publication. Half a day each week must be devoted to meeting school groups, visitors and other participants of the cultural programme.
Suitable if: you work with paper, printmaking, material or experimental craft techniques and speak French. Publishing projects are not considered as part of this call.

SOCIAL DIVE — Tokyo Biennale residency
An open international call for projects within the Tokyo Biennale, themed “From Me to Us”. SOCIAL DIVE covers the flight, accommodation in Tokyo and a project development grant, with the presentation taking place at one of 11 sites across the city, from a temple district to the Otemachi business centre.
Suitable if: you are an artist, curator or researcher ready to work with a specific district of Tokyo and its residents, rather than in a conventional exhibition space.
May not be suitable if: you need to know the residency dates in advance — they are only set after selection.

Kulturkollektiv Goetheschule
A one-month residency in a Thuringian town with a glassblowing heritage, open not only to glassblowers but also to painters, sculptors, photographers and makers working in any technique. Organisers pay €1,000, provide free housing with a studio in a former school building, and announce their decision just one month after the deadline.
Suitable if: you want a short, quickly decided stay with money in hand and a studio.
May not be suitable if: you need travel and materials costs covered — the residency does not cover them.

Camargo Fellowship
A research residency in Cassis, in the south of France, offering ten weeks for artists, writers, composers, curators, translators, researchers and interdisciplinary teams. Participants get fully equipped housing, workspaces, a library, an art or music studio, a stipend of €350 a week — €3,500 for the whole period, plus reimbursement of basic travel costs. The programme is geared not towards quickly producing finished objects, but towards research, reflection and developing complex long-term projects. Artists need at least five years of professional practice, and the working language is English.
Suitable if: you already have an established practice and need time for research, a book, a film, a new artistic direction or an interdisciplinary project.
Application deadline — 1 October 2026.

Fondation des Treilles
A residency for photographers at a historic 300-hectare estate in the south of France, from one to eight months. Residents receive €2,650 a month, accommodation in the estate’s guest house, meals, a digital studio and a film darkroom, and at the end of the season the foundation shows the work at an exhibition in a Paris gallery.
Suitable if: your project relates to the Mediterranean — this is a selection requirement, not a preference.
May not be suitable if: your project’s theme has nothing to do with the Mediterranean.

Institut français × Cité internationale des arts
A residency in Paris for 2027–2028, for artists who have long been living outside France, from €1,100 a month. The partner programme runs 22 studios and selects around 70 laureates each year across almost every creative field, from visual art and film to crafts and gastronomy.
Suitable if: you can apply through a partner organisation — there is no option to apply independently.
May not be suitable if: you do not have a partner organisation willing to apply on your behalf.
Application deadline — 8 October 2026.

workspacebrussels
A studio residency for the performing arts at four leading Brussels venues — Kaaitheater, Les Brigittines, Rosas and Ultima Vez. Foreign residents get housing and €750 for travel and food, and on Tuesdays all residents gather for a shared meal.
Suitable if: you work in dance, performance, theatre or related disciplines — at any stage, from research to a finished piece.
May not be suitable if: your practice is visual art or music — the organisation explicitly excludes these fields.
Application deadline — 1 December 2026 (for residencies in August–December 2027).

Nordic Artists’ Centre Dale (NKD)
One of the well-known residencies of Northern Europe, fully state-funded. The programme takes in around 30 artists and researchers each year for 2–3 months, offering equipped housing, a private studio and a stipend of €1,200 to €1,500 a month in the secluded natural setting of Western Norway.
Suitable if: you work in visual, spatial or research-based art and value quiet and focus without outside pressure.
May not be suitable if: you need an urban setting or an active group dynamic.
Application deadline — applications are open on a rolling basis, with no fixed deadline.

Solitude Fellowship
One of Europe’s best-known programmes, run by Akademie Schloss Solitude, offers artists, writers, designers, architects, musicians, directors, researchers and digital-practice authors 6 or 9 months to live and work in Stuttgart. Fellows receive a stipend of €1,300 a month, a fully equipped studio for living and working, travel reimbursement, possible project funding and health insurance for residents from outside the EU. Workshops for wood, metal, video editing and VR, libraries and an international, interdisciplinary community add further value. The programme requires living in Stuttgart full-time and taking an active part in the Academy’s life.
Suitable if: you need an extended period for serious development of your practice, an international professional environment, and full financial and infrastructural support.

Berliner Künstlerprogramm (DAAD)
One of Europe’s most institutionally strong international residencies lets authors spend an extended period in Berlin, focused on their own practice and professional exchange. The programme supports literature, film, music, sound art and visual art, providing a stipend, furnished housing, relocation cost coverage and access to the city’s cultural infrastructure. For literature, music and sound art the residency usually lasts 12 months, for film — 6 months. Visual artists do not apply on their own: candidates are invited by a special nomination committee. For the other fields, the international call usually opens in autumn.
Suitable if: you have already established an independent professional position, have a strong portfolio, and are ready to work in an intensive international, institutional environment.
