Assistant Curator — a curatorial role at Kunsthalle Wien in Vienna with a salary from €3,000 per month

An assistant curator role in Vienna is a way into curatorial practice at one of Europe’s leading contemporary art institutions. Kunsthalle Wien in the MuseumsQuartier is looking for an assistant curator to help prepare exhibitions, texts and research. It is a permanent full-time position with a salary from €3,000 gross per month and flexible hours, including the option of partial remote work.

About Kunsthalle Wien and the role
Kunsthalle Wien is Vienna’s city institution for contemporary art, presenting international exhibitions, debates and projects at the intersection of art and society. The assistant curator works within the curatorial team and takes part in the full cycle of exhibition-making — from research and concept to accompanying texts.

Who they are looking for
The team expects a completed relevant education and/or at least one year of professional experience in contemporary art. Excellent communication skills and fluent German and English, both written and spoken, are required. This is the key constraint: without fluent German the position is unlikely to be a fit.

Contract and pay
The position is 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday, on a permanent contract, starting as soon as possible. The base salary is from €3,000 gross per month under the Austrian collective agreement, with possible overpayment depending on qualifications and experience. Hours are flexible, and partial remote work is possible.

What you need to apply
Applications are submitted as a single PDF containing a motivation letter, a CV and a writing sample — a press release, an exhibition text, an article or an academic excerpt. Submission is via the official vacancy form.

The deadline for applications is 23 August 2026.
