LIAEP — grant of up to $7,000 for travel and residency in the United States for artists
This is a wonderful opportunity to travel to the United States for cultural and professional exchange and receive funding for it. The LIAEP programme supports artists who want to learn about the American professional context, establish new connections, and gain experience that can be incorporated into the development of their practice.
The programme is implemented by LIAEP. It operates in the format of an international cultural exchange. It is not a training programme or contract work. Nor is it an exhibition tour. It is a temporary trip with a clear professional purpose.
Host organisation
It is important to bear in mind one key condition. LIAEP will only fund the trip if there is a host organisation in the United States. This could be an institution, studio, non-profit organisation or professional workshop.
If you do not yet have such a contact, this is a common situation. Many artists start by looking for organisations that are similar in theme or format. Then they study the projects and write a short letter with an exchange proposal. Simple logic usually works well: who you are, why you want to come, and why this particular context is important to you. The possibility of funding often helps to make the first contact more confident.
What they look for in the selection process
LIAEP provides funding, and decisions are made based on the quality of the application. First and foremost, they look at the professional CV, portfolio and purpose of the trip. It is also important that the project is clear and logically structured.
If your CV or portfolio is not yet adapted for international submission, this is not a problem. The ArtCurator platform has AI assistants that help you bring your CV into an international format, structure your portfolio, and formulate a description of your work so that it reads clearly and professionally. This is especially useful if you have not applied for foreign programmes before.
Who is the programme suitable for
The programme is particularly aimed at mid-career artists. Priority is given to artists who do not yet have established international experience. Attention is also paid to trips to contexts outside the dominant Western art market.
Format of participation
The format of participation is always individual. It can be a residency, a research trip or a professional visit. The main thing is that the purpose of the trip is clearly defined and related to the development of practice and international relations.
The programme does not involve long-term migration. It also does not lead to an academic degree.
What you need to prepare
To apply, you will need to prepare a package of materials. This usually includes your CV, portfolio, letters of recommendation, project description, and travel budget. The programme is competitive, and only fully completed applications will be considered.
Applicants are responsible for obtaining their own visas and permits. In some cases, the programme works through host organisations in the United States to reimburse expenses. This is due to administrative considerations.
Deadlines and funding
The maximum grant amount is $7,000. These funds can be used for flights, accommodation, meals, local transport and work materials.
Applications are open from 1 November 2025 to 15 January 2026. Applications must be submitted online in English. They can be saved and edited until final submission. Selection results are expected to be announced by 18 March 2026. After the trip, participants will prepare a brief report on their experience and use of funds.
