APM Résidences 2027 — residency in France for artists with a €1,500 grant, studio and exhibition

Working in a secluded spot by the sea can offer not only a change of pace, but also a way to focus on your craft and reconnect with your materials. This programme is designed to provide the time, space and conditions for in-depth work in a calm and supportive environment.
The programme takes place in Saint-Jacques-de-la-Mer (Brittany, France) — a peninsula with eleven beaches, 30 minutes from Saint-Malo. The residency is aimed at artists working in painting and printmaking, and lasts for three months during one of two periods in 2027.

What the residency offers
The programme combines basic financial support with comprehensive working conditions:
A grant of €1,500;
Additional funding for materials and production costs;
A private studio (approx. 40 m²);
Accommodation with a private bedroom and bathroom;
Work in a small group (two artists at a time);
Public programme: exhibitions, open studios, meetings with the public;
Opportunity for paid participation in events.
Importantly: the residency involves not only the creation of works, but also their subsequent life — one of the works is transferred to the association for 5 years for exhibitions and public displays.

Who is it for
— Artists working in painting and drawing
— Those who wish to focus on their individual practice
— Artists prepared to work in a small group setting (2 participants)
Important requirements:
— A background in art education
— Professional artist status (registration in the artists-authors system)
This is not a formal barrier, but an indication that the programme is geared towards artists with an established artistic practice.

How to apply and residency dates
Applications must be submitted as a single PDF file (up to 10 MB) and must include: a portfolio (up to 20 pages), a CV, a personal statement and proof of artist status. The file must be formatted and named in accordance with the programme’s requirements.
The residency runs throughout the year, but the open call is open for two periods:
11 January – 31 March 2027
13 September – 20 December 2027
The programme is structured around a combination of individual work and public engagement. Artists are not completely isolated: meetings, exhibitions and participation in events are organised, which broadens the context of their practice.

Why this is a great opportunity
This residency focuses on concentration and deepening one’s practice. Unlike large-scale programmes with intensive networking, the key here is the opportunity to work in a peaceful environment and develop one’s practice without external pressure.
For artists who need time to develop a series or transition to a new phase, this format can be particularly valuable.

The deadline for applications is 30 June 2026.
The selection process consists of two stages: an initial review and an interview with the jury.
Results will be announced by 31 October 2026.
